Indianapolis, IN - The Knights were back in action on Tuesday, May 16th as they continued playing in the NAIA Opening Round. Tuesday's games would be delayed until later in the day because of rain but it would not deter the Knights. The Knights would get into trouble in the first inning, giving up two singles to the Bulldogs, but a throw from Emma Rualerson to home plate would stop the run from scoring and would get the Knights out of the inning. The Knights would get two singles in the bottom half of the first inning but would also be unable to score any runs and the game would remain tied at 0-0. The knights would have to fend off the Bulldogs again in the third inning as the Bulldogs would get two runners on base but the Knights would keep the ball in the infield and the game would remain scoreless. The Knights would break through in the bottom of the third inning as
Gabbie Haas would reach on a bunt single and errors would allow her to reach third.
Summer Lawrence would come up next in the lineup and clear the bases with a two-run home run as the Knights would take a 2-0 lead. The Knights would not be done though as
Alexis Cosgrove would hit a single to set up Raulerson for another two-run home run to give the Knights a 4-0 lead after the third inning. The Knights would get another run in the fifth inning as Lawrence would lead off the inning with a solo home run and give the Knights a 5-0 lead. The Knights would go on to win the game by the same score as
Beth Eddins would throw a complete game shutout, allowing eight hits and striking out two batters. The Knights will be back in action on Wednesday, May 17th as they will play the 1-seed Knights of Marian University at 10:30 AM EST for a shot to play in the championship game against the 3-seed Cougars of Columbia College.
