Knights and Rams Split First Two Games

Cochran, GA - The Knights were at home on Friday, February 16th as they opened SSAC conference play, hosting the 18th-ranked Rams of the University of Mobile. The Knights were looking to get conference play off to a hot start and surprise some teams. The Knights would start off the game scoring the first two runs in the second inning on a Zane Faulk solo home run to lead off the inning and a fielder's choice by Brennon Williams that would drive in another run. The Knights lead would not last long as the Rams would score seven runs in the third inning and one run in the fourth inning as the Knights would trail 8-2. The Knights bats would wake up in the seventh inning as Williams would lead off the inning with a solo home run and a Ryan Wilson sacrifice fly would plate two runs. The Knights would make their comeback too late though as they would lose the first game of the series 8-4. The Knights would carry their offensive momentum into the second game of the series as they would score one run in the first inning on a Williams sacrifice fly. The Knights would get on the scoreboard again in the third inning after Chaz Salter would lead off the inning with a double to set up Jacob Pierce for the two-run home run. The Knights would get two more runners on later in the inning but could not capitalize as they would lead the game 3-0 after three innings. The Knights lead would be cut into in the fifth inning when the Rams would score one run on a solo home run but the Knights would continue to hold a 3-1 lead. The Rams would score again in the seventh inning as they would tie the game at 3-3. The Knights would retake the lead in the bottom half of the inning after hitting into a fielder's choice and a throwing error by the Rams would allow a run to score as the Knights would hold a 4-3 lead after seven innings. The Rams would threaten in the eighth inning with runners on first and third but the Knights would get out of the inning without giving up any runs. The Knights would close out the game in the ninth inning and get the 4-3 victory. Evan Boyle would get the win after pitching 2.2 innings, allowing only three hits and striking out three batters. The Knights will be back in action tomorrow, February 17th as they close out the series with the Rams. First pitch is scheduled for 1 PM EST.
