Knights Take Two From Tornados

Cochran, GA - The Knights were back on their home field on Sunday, February 18th as they hosted the Tornados of D-III Brevard College. The Knights were coming off of sweep of D-III Agnes Scott and were looking to keep their record undefeated.

Game One

The Tornados would draw a walk from their leadoff hitter and would get her over to third base as they would threaten to get on the scoreboard first but the Knights would get out of the inning without giving up the run. The Knights would answer back in the bottom half of the inning with two runs on a Christina Zeppa RBI single and then a delayed double steal as Madisyn Riggins would score to give the Knights a 2-0 lead after one inning. The Knights would get two walks to start off the second inning but would come away with no runs. The Tornados would threaten again in the third inning as they would load the bases but the Knights defense would hold again as the score would remain 2-0. The game would turn into a pitcher's duel as neither team could generate any offense until the fifth inning when the Knights bats would wake up. A Gabbie Haas single to lead off the inning and a Riggins single would put runners on first and third and a stolen base by Riggins would put both runners in scoring position. An error by the Tornados shortstop would allow one run to score and an RBI double by Alexis Cosgrove would put the Knights lead at 4-0. An RBI groundout by Summer Lawrence and an RBI single by Georgia Bice would score two more runs as the Knights would take a 6-0 lead after five innings. After giving up a run in the top of the sixth inning, the Knights would get a run in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI single by Riggins and would load the bases but would come away with only the one run. The Knights would finish out the game and win the game 7-1. Riggins would get the win, throwing a complete game and giving up two hits while striking out nine batters.

Game Two

The Knights would take the lead early in the second game of the day as they would score one run in the first inning after a Morgan Windham single and a wild pitch to put Windham on second, a Riggins RBI double would give the Knights a 1-0 lead after one inning. The Knights would threaten in the second inning after getting runners on second and third but would be unable to score and they would continue to lead 1-0. The Knights would get on the board again in the fourth inning a Bice single and an Olivia Harris fielder's choice, Lawrence would hit an RBI triple to center field to give the Knights a 2-0 lead. The Knights would add another run in the fifth inning after a Windham walk and stolen base to set up Zeppa RBI single to give the Knights the 3-0 lead after five innings. After giving up a run in the sixth inning, the Knights would get the run back in the bottom half of the inning after a Caroline Albritton double and a groundout would move her to third, Sarah Latham would hit an RBI single to give the Knights a 4-1 lead. The Knights would close out the game to win the game. Beth Eddins got the win, throwing a complete game and allowing three hits and striking out six batters.

The Knights will be back in action on Friday, February 23rd when they hit the road to take on Point University in West Point, Georgia for the first conference series of the season. First pitch is scheduled for 2 PM EST.
