Cochran, GA - The Knights were back on the field on Saturday, February 24th as they played a doubleheader against the 4th-ranked Crusaders of William Carey University to finish off the weekend series. The Knights were defeated by the Crusaders on Friday with the help of some wind and Saturday looked to be an even higher wind event.
Game One
The Knights looked to be in for another long day on the field as the Crusaders would start the first inning off scoring two runs but the Knights would answer back in the first inning with a two-run home run from
Ryan Wilson that would tie the game at 2-2. The Knights would do the biggest part of their damage in the second inning as they would score 12 runs in the inning on a solo home run from
Brennon Williams, an RBI double from
Zane Faulk, an RBI single from
JT Rice, a two-run double from
Yariel Diaz, a two-run double from Faulk as well as five runs scored on wild pitches, passed balls, and bases loaded walks. The Crusaders would get three runs in the third but
Jacob Pierce would answer back in the fourth inning with a two-run home run to give the Knights a 16-5 lead. The Crusaders would have a big fifth inning as they would close the gap down to 16-11 but Pierce would hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning to extend the lead to 19-11. After the Crusaders would score two runs in the sixth inning, the Knights would answer back in the bottom half of the inning with RBI singles from
Chaz Salter and
Jaiden Duarte before Pierce would hit his third home run of the game, a grand slam, and the Knights would take the first game of the day 25-13.
Game Two
The second game of the day would have less scoring than the first but would be exciting in its own way as the Crusaders would score two runs in the first inning but Pierce would hit a solo home run in the bottom half of the inning to cut the deficit down to 2-1. The Knights would take the lead in the third inning after a sacrifice fly by Faulk and RBI single from Rice to take a 3-2 after three innings. The game would move quickly into the sixth inning when the Crusaders would score two runs but the Knights would have another answer as they would score two runs in the seventh inning on a Faulk RBI single and a
Datren Bray sacrifice fly to take a 5-4 lead. The Crusaders would push a run across in the top of the ninth inning to tie the game at 5-5 but the Knights would get a one out RBI single from
Brennon Williams to walk the game off and give the Knights the 6-5 win.
The Knights record moves to 8-7, 4-2 SSAC as they will hit the road on Friday, March 1st when they travel to Thomasville, Georgia to take on the Night Hawks of Thomas University in the first conference series of the season. First pitch is scheduled for 6 PM EST.
