Knights and Fire Go Down To Wire

Lakeland, FL - The Knights were back on the court on Saturday, March 9th as they traveled to Lakeland, Florida to take on the 3rd-ranked Fire of Southeastern University. The Knights went into the match on a six match winning streak and were looking to continue their streak with win over a top-5 opponent. The Knights would win in the #3 doubles match but would be unable to come away with the doubles point as the Fire would win at the #1 and #2 doubles position as the Knights would trail 1-0 in the match. The Knights would do well in the singles portion of the match, winning three points with two matches going three sets, but would also lose three matches as the Knights would lose the overall match 4-3.

1. Marina Prieto Gonfaus/Lucille Jence lost to Martina Picardi/Simone Simas, 2-6
2. Lena Golz/Paula Rodriguez Velayos lost to Flaminia Guidantoni/Ingrid Montserrat, 3-6
3. Aya El Marrasse Zarioui/Sandra Recuenco Tarin defeated Irene Lopez/Neleah Neiberline, 6-2

Singles Results

1. Sandra Recuenco Tarin defeated Martina Picardi (4-6, 6-2, 6-0)
2. Marina Prieto Gonfaus defeated Neleah Neiberline (6-3, 6-2)
3. Lucille Jence lost to Flaminia Guidantoni (2-6, 3-6)
4. Lena Golz defeated Simone Simas (2-6, 6-4, 6-4)
5. Paula Rodriguez Velayos lost to Ingrid Montserrat (2-6, 3-6)
6. Aya El Marrasse Zarioui lost to Irene Lopez (7-6, 2-6, 3-6)

The Knights will have two weeks to rest and recuperate before they hit the road again when they take on the 9th ranked Crusaders of William Carey University in Mobile, Alabama. That match is set to start at 10 AM CST.
