Knights Split With Toppers to Win Series

Cochran, GA - The Knights remained on the road on Saturday, March 23rd as they played the Toppers of Blue Mountain Christian University to finish up a conference series. The Knights won the first game of the series and were looking to try and take the remaining two games.

Game One

The first game of the day would start off well for the Knights as they would score a run in the first inning on a passed ball but the Toppers would lock in on the Knights pitching as the Knights would give up two runs in each of the first three innings and six runs in the fourth inning. The Knights would score a run in the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly from JT Rice but would be unable to prevent the mercy rule as they would lose the first game, 12-2.

Game Two

.The second game of the day would start off slow for the Knights as they would give up one run in the second inning and two runs in the third inning to trail 3-0. The Knights would answer back in the fourth inning with three runs on a two-run double by Adam Alicea-Brooks and a sacrifice fly by Yariel Diaz as they would tie the game at 3-3. The Toppers would add two runs in the bottom half of the inning as both offenses would quiet down. The Knights offense would wake up in the seventh inning as they would score four runs on a Chaz Salter RBI double, RBI singles by Jacob Pierce and JT Rice, and a sacrifice fly by Ryan Wilson as they would take a 7-5 lead. The Knights would add an insurance run in the ninth inning with an RBI single from Diaz. The Knights would hold on for the win as they would win the series from the Toppers. Evan Boyle would get the win, throwing 5.2 innings out of the bullpen and allowing four hits while striking out four batters.

The Knights record moves to 15-14 as they will hit the road again on Friday, March 29th as they travel to New Orleans, Louisiana to take on the 15th-ranked Wolfpack of Loyola University.
