Cochran, GA - The Knights were back in action on Friday, March 29th as they hosted the Toppers of Blue Mountain Christian University. The Knights were coming off of a sweep of UT-Southern and were looking to get another one.
Game One
The Knights would get the scoring started in the first inning as they would score a run on an RBI groundout by
Morgan Windham to take a 1-0 lead. The Knights would score another run in the second inning on an RBI single by
Taylor Layne and one run in the third inning on an RBI double by
Madisyn Riggins as they would hold a 3-0 lead. The Knights would double their lead in the fourth inning as
Morgan Windham would hit a three-run double to give the Knights a 6-0 lead. The Knights would finish off the Toppers in the fifth inning on an RBI double by
Sarah Latham and score the final run on a fielding error as they Knights would force the mercy rule and win the game 8-0.
Emily Proctor would throw the complete game shutout, allowing only two hits and striking out three batters.
Game Two
The second game of the series would be a much closer game as the Toppers would score two runs in the first inning but the Knights would answer back in the second inning with RBI doubles from
Madisyn Riggins and
Georgia Bice as they would tie the game at 2-2. The Toppers would take the lead back in the third inning on a solo home run as the Knights would trail 3-2. The Knights would tie the game at 3-3 in the fifth inning on an RBI single by
Gabbie Haas and take the lead in the sixth inning with an RBI single by
Madisyn Riggins and a two-run single by
Christina Zeppa as they would take a 6-3 lead into the final inning. The Knights would give up a run in the seventh inning but would hold on for the 6-4 win.
Madisyn Riggins would get the win, her ninth of the season, and
Beth Eddins would pitch the final inning to get the save.
The Knights record moves to 20-8, 10-4 SSAC with the sweep as they will hit the toughest part of their conference schedule upcoming with a road trip as they travel to William Carey and Mobile this upcoming weekend.
