Gulf Shores, AL - The Knights were back on the field on Sunday, March 3rd as they finished off the final day of the Gulf Shores Invitational. The Knights were set to play two games as they would take on the Owls of William Woods University and immediately follow that game up with the 24th-ranked Cougars of Saint Xavier University.
Game One
The Knights would get a runner into scoring position in the first inning after a walk and stolen base by
Summer Lawrence but would be unable to score any runs. The Knights would get two runs in the third inning on a two-run double by
Morgan Windham as they would take a 2-0 lead. The Knights would have another chance in the fourth inning to add on more runs as they would load the bases but would strand all of the runners. The Knights would off the Owls as they would win 2-0 with
Madisyn Riggins throw the two hit shutout.
Game Two
The Knights would score two runs in the first inning of the final game of the weekend as an error by the Cougars would allow two runs to score. The Knights would give up two runs in the bottom half of the inning and one run in the second inning as they would trail 3-2 after the second inning. The Knights would give up four runs in the fifth inning but would get one back in the sixth inning after an error would allow a run to score and the Knights would close the gap to 7-3. The Cougars would answer back with a run in the bottom half of the sixth inning as the Knights would head into the seventh inning looking to start a comeback. The Knights would get a solo home run from
Georgia Bice but the comeback attempt would be unsuccessful as the Knights would fall 8-4.
The finish the Gulf Shores Invitational with a record of 2-2 as they return to conference play on Friday, March 8th when they host the Night Hawks of Thomas University. First pitch is scheduled for 1 PM EST.
