Cochran, GA – Middle Georgia State University interim head softball coach Randi Wimpy has been named as the full-time coach, effective immediately as announced by Director of Athletics, Michael Brown. Coach Wimpy has served as the interim head coach since the 2023 SSAC Softball Tournament and led the Knights throughout the 2023-24 academic year.

In her first season at the helm, Coach Wimpy led the team to a 33-16 record, finishing second in the SSAC regular season standings as well as runner-up in the 2024 SSAC Conference Tournament, and securing a berth in the NAIA Opening Round for the second straight season.
"I look forward to seeing how Randi continues to grow as a coach and leader of our softball program. She embraced the challenges of a difficult schedule last season and helped lead our team to a second-straight NAIA postseason appearance and we believe the future is bright for our team under her leadership," said Brown.

A Cartersville, Ga. native, Randi Wimpy began her softball career at Woodland High School where she competed as a four-year Varsity starter for the Lady Wildcats and still holds the home run and batting average record. In 2018, Woodland High School officially retired her jersey, becoming only the fourth player in school history to receive said honor.

In 2011, Wimpy went on to play collegiate softball at Walters State Community College in Morristown, TN. She would go on to lead the nation with a .613 batting average, second in the country with 26 home runs, 25 doubles and 82 RBI. Following the 2012 season, Wimpy was named TCCAA Conference Player of the Year and a NJCAA All-American first-team. Wimpy still holds the batting average and home run record at Walter State Community College to this day.

In 2014, Wimpy signed to play at Reinhardt University in Waleska, Ga. where she would take home even more hardware for her prodigious power at the plate. Over the next three seasons (2014-16) she would be named the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Player of the Year and a NAIA All-American first-team selection after each season while also taking home back-to-back National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Diamond Catcher of the Year awards. She also helped lead Reinhardt to a third place finish at the 2015 NAIA World Series.

"I am extremely grateful for this opportunity to continue my career here at MGA.  I would like to thank Jason Williams, Michael Brown, and many others for the constant support and guidance on my journey. Softball has been my passion since I was a child and I look forward to continuing to give back to the game that has given me so much. Go Knights!" said Wimpy.

The Knights will welcome in a new recruiting class this fall which will be tasked with replacing five seniors who helped the aide the team's historic postseason success the past two seasons.
