Cochran, GA - The Knights were back on the court on Monday, January 27th as they hosted the Crusaders of William Carey University. The Knights and Crusaders were originally scheduled to play on Thursday but winter weather forced the delay.
The Crusaders scored the first three points of the game to gain the lead as the Knights faced an eight point deficit midway through the first quarter. The Knights cut the lead down to two points but the Crusaders gained a six point lead at the end of the quarter. The deficit for the Knights grew to 12 points in the second quarter as the defense would stop the bleeding and the Knights trailed by 10 points at halftime. The Knights came out of the halftime break shooting cold with the Crusaders gaining a 20 point lead with four minutes left in the third quarter. The Knights kept the deficit from growing more as they trailed 60-40 at the end of the third quarter. The deficit grew to as many as 24 points in the fourth quarter but the Knights found their shooting touch as they cut the lead down to 15 points by the end of the game, losing 77-62.
Lailah Heard led the Knights with 19 points, 11 coming from the free throw line.
ZaKyria Johnson and
India Johnson added 15 points each.
The Knights will be back in action on Thursday, January 30th as they hit the road for a conference matchup against the Firehawks of UT-Southern. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 PM CST.
