Box Score Montgomery, AL - The Knights Women's Tennis opened their season on the road on Sunday, January 26th as they traveled to Montgomery, Alabama to take on the Warhawks of NCAA D-II Auburn-Montgomery. The Knights and Warhawks are very familiar with each other as the Knights have historically played AUM to open each season. The Knights were ranked 5th in the NAIA to start the season while the Warhawks were ranked 10th in the NCAA D-II.
Berta Castello and
Tamanna Takoria would start the match as the #1 doubles pair and they would take the Warhawks #1 doubles pair into a tiebreaker but would ultimately lose the match 7-6. The #2 doubles pair would be Marina Gonfaus and Ainhoa de Moral as they would lose their match 6-3. The #3 doubles pairing would be Aya Zarioui and
Yana Prihach and they would lose 6-1.
Berta Castello would play in the #1 singles match and win the first set but the Warhawks #1 would win the second and third sets to take the win. Marina Gonfaus would play as the #2 singles, losing the first set in a 7-6 tiebreaker and lose the second set and lose the match. Ainhoa de Moral would play in the #3 singles match and lose both sets as the Knights would lose the overall match 4-0. The #4, #5, and #6 singles matches would all go unfinished.
The Knights will return to the court on Friday, January 31st as they travel to Kansas City, Missouri to compete in the ITA Indoor Nationals.
