Knights Take Two on Opening Day

Cochran, GA - The Knights Baseball team was on the field on Friday, January 31st for the first time this season as they hosted the Pioneers of Spartanburg Methodist College and the Barons of Brewton-Parker College. The Knights were looking to open the season with two wins to get things moving in the right direction.

The Knights gave up five runs in the first inning as they tried to settle in to the game. The Pioneers scored another run in the third inning but the Knights scored two runs in the bottom half of the inning on a Mikal Ashley RBI single and an RBI groundout by Datren Bray. Brennon Williams got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the fourth inning to draw the Knights closer and they tied the game in the fifth inning with RBI singles by Yadiel Perez and Chaz Salter with an RBI groundout by Jose Vargas tying the game at 6-6. After the Pioneers scored a run in the seventh inning to retake the lead, the Knights scored four runs in the bottom half of the inning on a Zane Faulk grand slam. The Knights pitching staff held down the rest of the game, winning 10-7.

The Knights played the Barons in the second game of the day and the offense would continue to roll. The Knights scored five runs in the first inning with a three run double by Datren Bray, a double steal that scored Michael Flaherty, and an RBI single by Tate Abbott. The Knights scored two more runs in the second inning on an RBI double from Bray and a wild pitch that scored Brennon Williams. The Knights put the game out of reach in the third inning with another five runs from an RBI singles by Jose Vargas and Michael Flaherty, a bases loaded walk by Casual Kay, and a wild pitch that scored Zane Faulk. After the Barons scored two runs in the fourth inning and one run in the fifth inning, the Knights answered back with an RBI groundout by Mason Page and an RBI single by Yadiel Perez in the fifth inning and scored the final two runs in the sixth inning on a Mason Page two run single.

The Knights will be back in action on Saturday, February 1st as they host both teams again. First pitch is scheduled for 12 PM EST.
