Volleyball Splits Tri-Match in Atlanta

ATLANTA, Ga. - The Knights hit the road on Tuesday as they traveled to Atlanta, Georgia to take on the Panthers of Clark Atlanta University and the Hawks of Shorter University in a tri-match. The Knights were looking to end a five match skid and appeared set up to do so against a Panthers team that came into the matchup with only one win on the season.

Clark Atlanta University

The first set opened with a three point run by the Panthers but the Knights answered back with a five point run to take a 5-3 lead. A four point run for the Panthers gave them the lead but the Knights came back with a six point run that gave them the lead for good in the first set as they won the set 25-16. The second set was closer as both teams kept each other within reach. The Panthers pulled out to a four point lead late in the set but the Knights showed their grit as they scored the final seven points of the set to win 25-22. The Knights lost the first two points of the third set but a six point run gave them the lead as they dominated the third set and ran away with the 25-11 win. McCall Wolf led the Knights with nine kills, Ellie Johnson had 30 assists, and Paige Collier had 13 digs. The Knights had 11 service aces as a team, five of which came from Graysen Lallier.

Shorter University

The Knights looked to carry the momentum of the first match into the second match of the day. The first set was close to start but the Hawks slowly started to pull away. The Knights found themselves down 16-10 but started to find their rhythm. The Knights used a late run to take a one point lead and traded points with the Hawks until the Knights were able to string two points together to win the first set 29-27. The second set did not start the way the Knights wanted as the Hawks won the first seven points of the set. The Knights were down by nine points later in the set but won six out of seven points to trim the lead down to four points. A late four point run by the Hawks sealed the Knights loss in the set, 25-18. The Knights had a better start to the third set as they won six of the first eight points to take a 6-2 lead. The Hawks were able to put together a few runs in the middle of the set to take the lead and pull away from the Knights as they lost 25-20. The Knights lost the first three points of the fourth set and a nine point run by the Hawks put the Knights hopes away as they lost the set 25-10. McCall Wolf and Mia Matheney each had eight kills, Ellie Johnson had 28 assists, and Paige Collier had 17 digs. Graysen Lallier had six service aces.

The Knights will return home for their next match on Friday, October 10th as they host the Pacers of USC-Aiken. Tip off is scheduled for 6 PM EST.
