COCHRAN, Ga. - The Knights were back on their home pitch for the first time in two weeks as they hosted the Nighthawks of the University of North Georgia. The Knights were looking to make a splash in the Peach Belt Conference standings with a win with the Nighthawks holding the top spot.
The Knights looked to be the aggressive team to start the first half as they got off the first three shots of the match. The Nighthawks grabbed possession from the Knights and scored the first goal of the match in the 18th minute. The defense had to play tough as the Nighthawks continued to put up shots with the Knights only having one more shot in the half. The defense held strong as the deficit remained 1-0 heading into halftime. The shots for the Nighthawks kept coming in the second half as they pushed to go further ahead of the Knights. The Knights found an opportunity in the 61st minute when the Nighthawks turned the ball over in the defensive half that turned into a goal for
Moos Zwerts and assisted by
Scott Osbourne to tie the match at 1-1. The goal lit a fire under the Nighthawks as they pushed to retake the lead. The Nighthawks scored three goals in the span of four minutes as the Knights found themselves down 4-1. A late goal for the Nighthawks in the 87th minute sealed the match as the Knights lost 5-1. The Knights were out shot 27-2, 11-4 in shots on goal for the match.
The Knights will be back on their home pitch on Saturday, October 11th as they take on the Pacers of USC-Aiken. Kick off is scheduled for 3:30 PM EST.
