YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. - The Knights remained on the road on Saturday as they were set to take on the Hawks of Shorter University. The Knights lost their first game of the season on Friday and were looking to find what was needed to get the win.
The game started off with the Hawks and Knights keeping the game close as neither team could sustain a run to pull ahead of the other team. The Knights started to pull away from the Hawks as they held a 10 point lead with 11:37 remaining in the first half. The Hawks started to chip away at the lead and the lead would change hands with 4:11 remaining in the half as the Knights tried to find their momentum again. The lead traded hands multiple times late in the first half before the Knights went into the halftime break down 39-38. The game stayed close throughout the second half as the Knights went up by six points with 12:12 remaining in the game. The Hawks came back to grab the lead before the Knights tied the game at 65-65 with 5:15 left on the clock. The Hawks took the lead again and the Knights had to fight to keep their hopes of victory alive. The Knights were able to hit three key free throws late to tie the game at 77-77 and send the game into overtime. In overtime, the Knights went down by five points but came back to tie the game at 89-89. The Knights drew a foul with :02 left in the period and knocked down both attempts to take the lead and won the game 93-91.
Krishen Atwal led the Knights with 29 points shooting 7-of-17 from the field, including 5-of-11 from three, and 10-for-10 from the free throw line.
Milique Smith had 11 points and 10 rebounds to notch the double-double while
OT Delancy,
Greg Jones, and
Joshua Robertson all reached double digits in scoring.
The Knights will return home to open their home schedule on Monday, November 17th as they host the Tigers of Voorhees University. Tip off is scheduled for 6 PM EST.
