COCHRAN, Ga. - The Knights hit the court on Saturday as they took a break from conference action to host the Panthers of Claflin University. The Knights were coming off of a big win against Flagler College while the Panthers were winners of their last six games.
The Panthers jumped on the scoreboard quickly before the Knights went on a nine point run to hold a 9-2 lead. The Panthers used an eight point run late in the first quarter to regain the lead but the Knights hit a bucket in the final seconds to hold an 11-10 lead after the first quarter of play. The Panthers grabbed the lead again in the second quarter but a ten point run by the Knights put them up 21-12 with 5:19 remaining in the quarter. The Panthers made another late run to try and regain the lead but the Knights held them off as they led 23-19 at halftime.
The offense for both teams came out of the break ready to go as the scoring picked up. The Knights pushed their lead to ten points before the Panthers closed the gap back down to five points. The Knights offense picked up the pace and the lead grew to 17 points before the Panthers used a nine point run to end the quarter and the Knights led 48-40. The lead reached ten points again early in the fourth quarter but the Panthers answered back and the Knights quickly found the lead at two points with 5:58 remaining in the game. The Knights offense started to get back into their rhythm as the two point lead was as close as the Panthers would get with the Knights pulling ahead and winning 63-58.
Milanni Abdus-Salaam led the way for the Knights with 16 points off the bench as
Kristen Foglia added 14 points.
Mireia Pou had eight assists and
Kennedi Hawkins dominated the glass with 15 rebounds.
The Knights will be back in action at home on December 31st as they host the Scotties of Agnes Scott College. Tip off is scheduled for 1:30 PM EST.
