Knights Defeat Stallions Despite Weather

Cochran, GA - The Knights were back on Stuckey Field on Tuesday, February 11th as they hosted the Stallions of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. The Knights and Stallions have a long standing rivalry dating back to the junior college days and were set to resume that rivalry despite the mist and fog.

The Knights got things started in the first inning with singles by Chaz Salter and Jose Vargas that set up Jaiden Duarte for the sacrifice fly to give the Knights a 1-0 lead. The Stallions grabbed the lead in the third inning after the Knights gave up two runs and the Knights trailed 2-1. The Knights tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning after a lead off single by Yadiel Perez. Perez stole second and two errors by the Stallions on the play allowed the Knights to tie the game at 2-2. The Knights carried the momentum into the fifth inning with Vargas leading off the inning with a single. Vargas came around to score on a wild pitch, taking a 3-2 lead. After two walks, a double steal and a wild pitch allowed Brennon Williams to score and the Knights held a 4-2 lead. The Knights added an insurance run in the seventh inning after a Datren Bray single and stolen base set up Perez to hit a single and a lazy throw by the Stallions allowed Bray to score, putting the Knights up 5-2. The bullpen for the Knights answered the call with Steven Sams, Jr. holding down the eighth inning and Carter Oglageo getting the save in the ninth inning. Yadiel Perez went 2-for-2 at the plate with two walks as Chaz Salter and Jose Vargas each went 2-for-4.

The Knights will be back in action on Friday, February 14th as they open conference play with a doubleheader against the Toppers of Blue Mountain Christian University. First pitch is scheduled for 2 PM EST.
