Cochran, GA - The Knights were back on their home field on Friday, February 14th as they were set to open conference play against the Toppers of Blue Mountain Christian University. The Knights were coming off of a mid-week win and looking to start the conference season off well.
The Knights looked rusty in the first inning, giving up two runs, but turned it around in the second inning with a run on a
Yadiel Perez single. The Knights would take the lead in the third inning on an RBI double by
Brennon Williams and an RBI single by
Datren Bray as they grabbed a 3-2 lead. The Knights pulled away in the fifth inning, scoring two runs on an error, an RBI groundout by
Jose Vargas, and an RBI double by
Casual Kay, taking a 7-2 lead. The Knights added an insurance run in the sixth inning on an RBI groundout by Vargas and the Knights won the game 8-2.
Kenneth Miller pitched the complete game, striking out six batters in the process.
The Knights did not wait long to grab the lead in the second game of the day as they scored seven runs in the first inning on RBI singles by
Jaiden Duarte and
Michael Flaherty, an RBI groundout by
Yadiel Perez, and two-run singles by
Connor Shealy and
Jose Vargas. The game moved along quickly until the Knights added an insurance run in the fourth inning on a
Yadiel Perez RBI single and the final insurance run in the seventh inning on a
Jaiden Duarte solo home run. The Knights pitching staff held up strong, allowing no runs on three hits and striking out six batters.
The Knights will return to Stuckey Field on Saturday, February 15th as they close out the series with the Toppers and look to get the series sweep. First pitch is scheduled for 1 PM EST.
