Cochran, GA - The Knights returned to Stuckey Field on Saturday, February 15th as they looked to close out the conference series against the Toppers of Blue Mountain Christian University. The Knights won the first two games of the series on Friday and were looking to finish off the Toppers for the sweep.
The sweep looked to be out of reach early after the Knights gave up a run in the first inning and two runs in the third inning. The Toppers looked to have all the answers after putting up another run in the seventh inning with the Knights having no answer on offense. The Knights found a glimpse of hope in the eighth inning after a double by
Teonis Pimentel led to singles by
Connor Shealy and
Chaz Salter that gave the Knights a run. The Knights inning ended in a double play, their third inning ending double play of the game. The Knights went into the ninth inning looking for any kind of spark to get the offense started. A single by
Datren Bray and a hit by pitch from
Jaiden Duarte gave the Knights what they were looking for. A single by
Yadiel Perez and a throwing error cut the lead down to 4-2. An RBI single by Pimentel put the Knights within one run and another error by the Toppers allowed the tying run to score. Two walks loaded the bases for
Jose Vargas and he delivered the game-winning RBI single with two outs in the ninth to walk the game off.
The Knights will be back in action on Tuesday, February 18th when they host an NCAA D-II opponent, the Sand Sharks of USC-Beaufort. First pitch is scheduled for 3 PM EST.
