Hattiesburg, MS - The Knights were on the road on Friday, February 21st as they traveled to Hattiesburg, Mississippi to take on the 4th-ranked Crusaders of William Carey University. The Knights were riding a five game winning streak heading into their first conference road trip of the season.
The Knights started off the first game of the series as well as they could have hoped as they scored two runs on a
Michael Flaherty two-run single to go ahead 2-0. After the Crusaders scored a run in the bottom half of the first inning, The Knights answered back with a run in the second inning on a wild pitch to take a 3-1 lead. The Knights found themselves down 4-3 after the Crusaders scored one run in the fourth inning and two runs in the fifth inning. In the final inning, the Knights got an RBI single from
Connor Shealy to tie the game at 3-3 and send the game into extra innings. The game ended up going ten innings with the Crusaders coming away with the win on a walkoff walk. The second game of the series started off slow for the Knights as they gave up runs in the first and third innings to trail 2-0. The Knights cut the deficit in half in the fifth inning on an RBI single by
Jose Vargas to pull within one run of the Crusaders. The Knights were down to their final out in the seventh but a wild pitch allowed the Knights to tie the game at 2-2. The Knights looked to be heading to extra innings again until the Crusaders scored a run in the bottom half of the inning.
The Knights will round out their series with the Crusaders on Saturday, February 22nd. First pitch is scheduled for 1 PM CST.
