Knights Sweep Skyhawks With Comeback Wins

West Point, GA - The Knights hit the road on Friday, February 21st for their first conference road series as they played the Skyhawks of Point University. The Knights were looking to get off to a good start to their conference schedule.

The Knights got on the board first in the first game of the series with an RBI single by Gabbie Haas in the second inning as they grabbed a 1-0 lead. A sacrifice fly in the third inning by Emily Proctor gave the Knights a 2-0 lead but the Skyhawks plated three runs in the bottom half of the inning and the Knights trailed 3-2. Both offenses went quiet until the sixth inning when the Knights put up five runs on a Madisyn Riggins solo home run, a Mel Bullock three-run home run, and a fielder's choice that brought Grace Avery in to score. The Knights scored four more runs in the seventh inning to give themselves an 11-3 lead and they won the game by the same score. The second game of the series started on the wrong side for the Knights as the Skyhawks scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Knights answered back in the second inning on an RBI single by Alexis Cosgrove and a two-run single by Sarah Latham. The Knights pulled ahead in the third inning with an RBI single by Grace Avery to give the Knights a 4-3 lead. The Knights relinquished the lead in the fourth inning when the Skyhawks scored three runs and the Knights trailed 6-4. The Knights waited until the final inning to put together some offense as they scored five runs in the inning on RBI singles by Kaylee Oliver, Caroline Albritton, and Gabbie Haas with the two other runs coming on errors. The Knights held down the seventh inning and won 11-6. Grace Avery had a perfect day at the plate, going 8-for-8.

The Knights will hit the road again on Saturday, February 22nd as they travel to Tifton, Georgia to take on the Fillies of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. First pitch is scheduled for 3 PM EST.
