Knights Split With Nighthawks

Cochran, GA - The Knights were back on their home field on Friday, February 28th as they hosted the Nighthawks of Thomas University. The Knights were 4-0 in conference going into their third conference series of the year while the Nighthawks were playing in their first series of the season.

The Nighthawks went ahead with one run in both the second and third innings before the Knights put some offense together. The Knights scored a run in the fifth inning on a Madison Cosgrove RBI single as the Knights cut the lead in half. The Nighthawks jumped ahead with three runs in the sixth inning and two runs in the seventh inning as they surged to a 7-1 lead. The Knights put up a fight to get back in the game as Mel Bullock hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning but the Knights ran out of offense as they lost 7-4. The offense showed up ready to go in the second game of the day as they scored one run in the second inning on an error to take a 1-0 lead. A Grace Avery RBI single and Madison Cosgrove RBI triple in the third inning put the Knights up 3-0. The Knights scored two more runs in the fourth inning after a dropped third strike allowed Madisyn Riggins to score and an RBI groundout by Gabbie Haas gave the Knights a 5-0 lead. After the Nighthawks put up three runs in the fifth inning, the Knights answered back with three runs in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI groundout by Alexis Cosgrove and a two-run single by Whitney Lee. The Nighthawks scored one run in the sixth inning but the Knights continued to have momentum as a sacrifice fly by Mel Bullock, an RBI double by Madison Cosgrove, and an error that allowed a run to score gave the Knights an 11-4 lead. The Nighthawks scored two runs in the seventh inning and loaded the bases but the Knights got out of the jam as they won 11-6. Madisyn Riggins got the win in game two with Sarah Latham getting the save.

The Knights will be back on the field on Sunday, March 2nd as they travel to Waleska, Georgia to take on the Eagles of Reinhardt University. First pitch is scheduled for 3 PM EST.
