Emerson, GA – The Knights hit the road for the first time this season as they headed to Emerson, Georgia for a neutral site game against the Tornadoes of Talladega College. The Knights and Tornadoes were conference foes for a few years before the Tornadoes moved to the HBCUAC.
After a scoreless top half of the first inning, the Knights got four runs in the bottom half of the inning thanks to two-run home runs from
Zane Faulk and
Jaiden Duarte. After giving up three runs in the top of the second inning and one run in the top of the third inning, the Knights and Tornadoes were tied at 4-4. After giving up the lead in the top of the fourth inning, the Knights loaded the bases with one out and scored three runs on a fielder's choice by
Chaz Salter and RBI singles
Jose Vargas and
Zane Faulk to take a 7-5 lead. The Knights added another run in the fifth inning on a
Yadiel Perez RBI single to grab an 8-5 lead. The Tornadoes led off the sixth inning with a walk and stolen base, but the Knights recorded three straight out to get out of the inning. The Knights threatened in the seventh inning by loading the bases but could not muster up any runs. After the Tornadoes scored four runs in the eighth inning, the Knights faced a 9-8 deficit. The Knights had six outs to score two runs and threatened both innings but came away with no runs.
The Knights will be back in action on Friday, February 7
th when they host the Knights of Marian University for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1 PM EST.
