Cleveland, GA - The Knights hit the road on Tuesday, March 18th as they traveled to Cleveland, Georgia to take on the Bears of Truett-McConnell University in a mid-week non-conference game. The Knights were coming off of a weekend that left a lot to be desired.
The Knights came out of the gates swinging, scoring eight runs in the first inning with RBI singles from
Michael Flaherty,
Connor Shealy,
Chaz Salter,
Jaiden Duarte, and
Zane Faulk, and RBI double from
Tate Abbott, and a two-run triple from
Jose Vargas. The Knights kept the pressure on the Bears in the second inning with a two-run single from Shealy that put the Knights up 10-0 and in an early position to force the mercy rule. The Bears scored five runs in the bottom of the third inning to cut the lead in half but the Knights answered back in the fifth inning with four runs on an RBI double by
Teonis Pimentel, an error that allowed another run to score, and a two-run single by Salter. After the Bears scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, Pimentel gave the Knights another run on an RBI triple to put the Knights ahead 15-7. The Knights came up in the seventh inning and got a two-run home run from Duarte and a solo home run from Faulk that put them up 18-7 and the pitching staff shut down the Bears in the bottom half of the inning to force the mercy rule and give themselves the victory. Every Knights starter in the lineup had at least two hits on the day.
The Knights will return home for a weekend conference series starting on Friday, March 21st as they host the Nighthawks of Thomas University. First pitch is scheduled for 3 PM EDT.
