Mobile, AL – The Knights were on the road for the final time this season as they headed to Mobile, Alabama to take on the Rams of the University of Mobile. The Knights and Rams were tied in the SSAC standings heading into the matchup.
The Knights looked to be on the wrong side of the matchup early on as they gave up four runs in the first three innings. The bats finally got rolling in the fourth inning with an RBI single by
Teonis Pimentel and a two-run double by
Tate Abbott as the Knights closed the deficit down to 4-3. The Knights grabbed the lead in the fifth inning with three more runs on a sacrifice fly by
Chaz Salter, an RBI double by
Michael Flaherty, and an RBI single by
Jaiden Duarte. The Knights continued to swing the hot bat in the sixth inning with five runs on a bases loaded walk by
Zane Faulk, an RBI groundout by Flaherty, a two-run double by Duarte, and an RBI single by Pimentel. The Rams scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning as they attempted to get back in the game.
Yadiel Perez added an insurance run in the seventh inning with a solo home run as the Knights won the first game of the series 12-7.
The second game of the series turned out to be another crazy game. The Knights scored one run in the first inning on a bases loaded walk but the Rams came back in the bottom half of the inning with three runs and the Knights found themselves down 3-1. The Knights strung together multiple hits in the third inning with two-run doubles by Duarte and Faulk and RBI doubles by
Tate Abbott and
Brennon Williams as they scored six runs to take a 7-3 lead. The Rams scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning to close within one run but the Knights answered back in the fourth inning with a solo home run by Duarte and a bases loaded walk by Perez. The Rams had an answer for the Knights and scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to tie the game at 9-9. The Knights scored two runs in the sixth inning on an RBI double by Faulk and an RBI single by Duarte and scored two runs in the seventh inning on a wild pitch and an RBI single by Flaherty to take a 13-9 lead. The Knights added to their lead in the ninth inning, scoring on a wild pitch and a two-run home run by Abbott, to go up and win 16-9.
The Knights will be back in action on Saturday, April 19
th as they finish off their series against the Rams. First pitch is scheduled for 1 PM CDT.
