COCHRAN, Ga. - The Knights were back on their home pitch on Wednesday as they hosted the Lakers of Clayton State University. The Knights had hit a rough patch with two straight shutouts and were looking to get their first goal in Peach Belt play.
The Lakers played tough as they kept the ball away from the Knights and held possession for most of the first half. The Lakers played the ball mostly on the defensive side of the pitch to bring the Knights defense up to chip the ball over the field and attack. The Lakers put the first point on the board in the 25th minute and the Knights trailed 1-0. The Lakers continued to play keep away with the Knights and the score remained 1-0 at halftime. The Lakers attacked more in the second half and the Knights were able to have more possession. The Knights got their chance in the 65th minute after drawing a foul in the penalty box and were awarded the penalty kick.
Javier Gongora Andres was able to capitalize and tied the match at 1-1. The match started to get aggressive as both teams battled for the ball and the Lakers pulled back ahead in the 80th minute. The lead was erased quickly as the Knights scored in the 81st minute off the foot of
Ronaldo Barnett and the match was tied at 2-2. The Lakers and Knights fought hard in the final minutes but neither team was able to find the back of the net and the match ended in a 2-2 draw. The draw gives the Knights their first point of Peach Belt Conference play. The Knights were outshot 18-4, 7-3 in shots on goal.
The Knights will be back in action on Saturday, September 27th as they head to Saint Augustine, Florida to take on the Saints of Flagler College. Kick off is scheduled for 3:30 PM EST.
