SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Knights hit the road on Thursday for their first match of the season as they headed to Savannah, Georgia to take on the Tigers of Savannah State University. The Knights and Tigers have historically played close matches and Thursday night ended up no different.

The first set was played close until the Knights broke a 10-10 tie to take the lead and they went on to win the set 25-16. The Knights jumped out to a decent lead to start the second set but the Tigers fought back and the set would go longer than regulation with the Tigers taking the set 27-25. The third set saw the lead trade hands multiple times as both teams looked evenly matched. The Knights went down 20-19 but won six of the last eight points in the set to win 25-22. In the fourth set, the Tigers jumped out to an early lead but the Knights came back to tie the set at 7-7. The set stayed close until the Tigers came away with the set 25-23. The match went into the fifth and final set with the Knights scoring the first four points of the set and staying ahead the entire set as they won 15-8 and won the match 3-2. Ellie Johnson led the Knights with 15 kills as three other Knights reached double digits. Aubrie Beard led the way with 27 assists with Johnson adding in 23. McCall Wolf led the team with 22 digs as three other players reached double digits.

The Knights will return to the court on Saturday as they open the home schedule when they face the Tigers of Savannah State on the second half of the home-and-home series. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 PM EST.
