COCHRAN, Ga. - The Knights hit the road on Saturday for the first time in a week as they played the Lakers of Clayton State University. The Knights were coming off of a close loss while the Lakers lost their previous game against Augusta University.
The Lakers hit the first shot of the game as the Knights did not score until 6:18 left in the first quarter. The Knights tied the game at 4-4 but the Lakers went back ahead with a free throw before the Knights used a 12-point run to pull ahead by 11 points. The Lakers hit a three pointer in the final minute to cut the lead down to eight points with the Knights leading 16-8. The Knights carried the momentum into the second quarter as they continued to build on their lead. The lead grew to 15 points with 5:51 left until halftime but it was the final time the Knights scored in the quarter as the Lakers cut into the lead and the Knights went into halftime up 25-19.
The Knights got things going again in third quarter as they built their lead back up to 14 points but the Lakers started to cut it back down. The lead got back down to eight points until the Knights closed out the third quarter with a 14-4 run to lead 52-34. The lead kept growing in the fourth quarter as the Knights built their largest lead of the day at 23 points. The Knights ended the fourth quarter much like they ended the second quarter as they did not score in the final 5:48 but they had a large enough lead to defeat the Lakers 62-50.
Kennedi Hawkins led the Knights with 18 points and 15 rebounds, her fourth double-double of the season, as
Milanni Abdus-Salaam added 13 points and
Mauryah Jones added 10 points, both coming off of the bench.
Ella Pritchard collected 13 rebounds as the Knights dominated the Lakers 54-28 on the glass.
The Knights will be back in action on Wednesday, January 14th as they host the Nighthawks of the University of North Georgia. Tip off is scheduled for 5:30 PM EST.
