COCHRAN, Ga. - The Knights were back on their home court on Wednesday as they were set to host the Nighthawks of North Georgia. The Knights won their previous game against Clayton State while the Nighthawks were undefeated in Peach Belt Conference play.
The Knights got off to a hot start scoring the first seven points of the game but the Nighthawks were able to score six straight points to cut the lead down to one. The Knights were unbothered by the run as they quickly extended the lead back out to nine points. The Nighthawks closed the gap down to four points but the Knights went back up by nine points before ending the first quarter with a 27-20 lead. The Knights kept the offense flowing in the second quarter as they went up by double digits. The Nighthawks cut the deficit down to five points but the Knights ended the second quarter with a 9-2 run to take a 45-33 lead into halftime.
The Knights continued to play at a high level as their lead grew to 20 points in the third quarter. The Nighthawks got the lead down to 16 points before the Knights hit a late free throw to take a 17 point lead into the fourth quarter. The Knights reached their largest lead of the night in the fourth quarter when they went up by 22 points and the Knights held off the Nighthawks as they won 78-61.
Kennedi Hawkins led the Knights with 15 points and 14 rebounds, her fifth double-double on the season, as four other Knights reached double digits in scoring.
The Knights will be back in action on Saturday, January 17th as they face the Bearcats of Lander University. Tip off is scheduled for 1:30 PM EST.
