COLUMBUS, Ga. - The Knights were back in action on Wednesday as they headed to Columbus, Georgia to take on the 23rd-ranked Cougars of Columbus State University. The Knights lost their previous matchup against Lander University while the Cougars won their previous matchup against Georgia Southwestern.
The Knights made the first basket of the game to take the lead but the Cougars answered back with eight straight points. The Knights hit back with five points to tie the game at 8-8 but the Cougars pulled back ahead by four points. The Knights ended the first quarter with four straight points to end the quarter tied at 18-18. The second quarter looked to be evenly matched as the lead changed hands between the two teams until the Knights used a seven point run to jump out in front. The Cougars made the final four points of the quarter and the Knights held a 29-26 lead heading into halftime.
The Knights hit two early three pointers to go up by nine points to start the third quarter but the Cougars slowly started to chip away at the lead. The Knights held an eight point lead with 5:12 remaining in the quarter but a 14 point run by the Cougars put the Knights by six points at the end of the third quarter. The Knights fought back in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 55-55 but the Cougars went back ahead by eight points and the Knights were unable to get back to the lead as they lost the game 67-61.
Kennedi Hawkins led the Knights with 15 points and 10 rebounds for another double-double as
Milanni Abdus-Salaam added 14 points off of the bench and
Ellie Southards scored 10 points.
The Knights will be back in action on Saturday, January 24th at home as they host the Hurricanes of Georgia Southwestern. Tip off is scheduled for 1:30 PM EST.
