COCHRAN, Ga. - The Knights were back in action on Saturday as they returned to Peach Belt Conference play against the Jaguars of Augusta University. The Knights were riding a three game winning streak while the Jaguars had won their previous game against Converse University.
The Knights got off to a slow start as the Jaguars scored the first four points of the game but the Knights hit two three pointers and tied the game at 6-6. The Knights pulled ahead by four points late in the first quarter but the Jaguars scored the final four points of the quarter and the game was tied at 11-11. The second quarter was a struggle for both teams as neither team could sustain any momentum. The Knights got out to a five point lead but the Jaguars were able to pull them back in and the game was tied at 18-18 going into the halftime break.
The action picked up in the third quarter as the Jaguars were able to put together a run and go up by ten points. The Knights were down by 11 points late in the quarter but scored the final eight points to cut the lead down to 39-36 heading into the final quarter. The Knights continued the run into the fourth quarter as they quickly got the lead. The lead went back-and-forth between the Knights and Jaguars with the game coming down to the final minutes. After the game was tied at 47-47, the Jaguars scored the final six points of the game and the Knights lost 53-47.
Ellie Southards led the Knights with 15 points and
Mauryah Jones added 10 points off the bench.
Kennedi Hawkins grabbed 13 rebounds for the Knights.
The Knights will be back on the court on Saturday, January 10th as they hit the road to take on the Lakers of Clayton State University. Tip off is scheduled for 1:30 PM EST.
