Baseball Splits Two Close Games Against Bulldogs

COCHRAN, Ga. - The Knights were on their home field on Friday, January 30th as they hosted the Bulldogs of Union University. The Knights were looking to open their season with a couple of wins to get the season started off with a bang.

Game One

The first game of the day started off as a pitcher's duel with neither team scoring in the first two innings. The Bulldogs scored two runs in the third inning but the Knights answered back in the fourth inning with a two-run double from Luke Davis to tie the game at 2-2. The Knights scored another run in the fifth inning on a bases loaded walk to take a 3-2 lead. The Bulldogs scored three runs in the seventh inning but the Knights had an answer in the bottom half of the inning as Justin Aponte hit a grand slam to put the Knights up 7-5. The Bulldogs fought back in the ninth inning as they scored two runs to force extra innings. Both teams scored one run in the tenth inning and the Bulldogs scored one run in the 11th inning to win the game 9-8.

Game Two

Game two started off scoreless until the third inning when the Knights scored a run on a Sebastian Collender sacrifice fly. The Bulldogs scored two runs in the fourth and one run in the fifth but the Knights came back in the bottom half of the fifth inning with an RBI single from Mikal Ashley. The Knights threatened in the seventh inning as they loaded the bases for Collender to hit into the fielder's choice to score the tying run and an error plated the winning run, giving the Knights a 4-3 lead.

The Knights will wrap up the three game series on Saturday, January 31st as they look to get the series win. First pitch is scheduled for 1 PM EST.
