Knights Force Overtime Against Sand Sharks

BEAUFORT, S.C. - The Knights went back out on the road on Saturday, February 7th as they headed to Beaufort, South Carolina to take on the Sand Sharks of USC-Beaufort. The Knights were riding a three game winning streak while the Sand Sharks had a five game winning streak of their own. The Knights lost to the Sand Sharks earlier in the season and were looking to avenge their loss.

Game Recap

The game started off tight as it remained close through the first few minutes of the first quarter. The Knights started to find a rhythm late in the quarter as they pulled away to a 19-10 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Knights extended their lead in the second quarter to 13 points with 7:23 remaining in the quarter but the Sand Sharks started to slowly chip away at the lead and the Knights led 36-30 at the halftime break.

The Knights had a tough third quarter as they only scored nine points and the Sand Sharks were able to take a seven point lead heading into the fourth quarter. The Sand Sharks lead grew to 11 points with 5:18 left in the game and it looked like the Knights were heading for a loss. The Knights were able to make shots down the stretch while the Sand Sharks missed key free throws and the Knights were able to tie the game at 74-74 and force overtime.

In overtime, the Sand Sharks scored the first seven points of the period and the Knights were unable to recover as they lost 86-79.

Notable Performances

Milanni Abdus-Salaam led the Knights with 20 points and 13 rebounds while Mauryah Jones had 18 points and Kristen Foglia had 15 points as the Knights scored 53 bench points.

What's Up Next

The Knights will return home for their next game on Wednesday, February 11th as they host the Lakers of Clayton State University. Tip off is scheduled for 5:30 PM EST.
