Baseball Splits the Day at Daytona

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Knights were back on the diamond on Saturday, March 21st as they were set to play two games on the day, the first against Embry-Riddle and the second against Grand Valley State.

Game One - Embry-Riddle

The Knights got on the scoreboard in the first inning with a sacrifice fly from Sebastian Collender but the Eagles responded with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at 1-1. The Knights broke the game open in the second inning with a three-run home run from Teonis PImentel that put them up 4-1. The Knights kept scoring as they scored on a fielder's choice in the fourth inning and got a solo home run from Mikal Ashley in the fifth inning to go ahead 6-1. The Knights finished off their scoring in the eighth inning with an RBI single from Justin Aponte and a two-run double from Mikal Ashley as they held on for the 9-1 win.

Notable Performances

Andrew Lowrey got the win, throwing seven inning of work and allowing one run on six hits while striking out five batters. Luke Davis went 4-for-4 at the plate while Mikal Ashley went 3-for-4.

Game Two - #13 Grand Valley State

The second game of the day went differently for the Knights as they gave up six runs over the first five innings. The Knights got a run in the sixth inning after a failed pickoff attempt resulted in an error that allowed a run to score and cut the lead down to 6-1. The Lakers got the run back in the bottom half of the inning but the Knights offense picked up in the seventh inning. The Knights loaded the bases before a hit by pitch, two walks, RBI singles from Mikal Ashley and Patrick Crosby, and a sacrifice fly from Luke Davis tied the game at 7-7. The Lakers responded with three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to regain the lead as the game went into the final innings. In the ninth inning, the Knights attempted to mount a comeback. An RBI single from Teonis Pimentel and an error put the Knights down by one run with the bases loaded but they would not score again as they lost 10-9.

What's Up Next

The Knights will be back on the field on Tuesday, March 24th as they head to Tifton, Georgia to take on the Stallions of ABAC. First pitch is scheduled for 3 PM EST.
