ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The Knights kicked off a second straight weekend in the state of Florida on Friday night as they went to battle in a low-scoring affair with Flagler College. The Saints pushed across two runs in the eighth inning to break a 1-1 stalemate and hung on for the 3-1 win over MGA.
Game Recap
Middle Georgia State broke through the scoreless tie in the top of the sixth inning when
Seve Fernandez singled through the left-side to plate
Sebastian Collender. The lead was short lived however as Flagler finally broke through against MGA southpaw
Ethan Gill in the bottom half of the sixth inning to knot the score at 1-1.
Things remained tied until the bottom of the eighth when the Saints scratched out a pair of runs. After loading the bases with nobody out, Flagler was nearly left without a run as MGA relief pitcher
Kody Collins entered the tough situation only to promptly deliver a double-play and keep the Saints at bay. But up next was Flagler catcher Jesse Sullivan who came through with a two-run single.
Despite outhitting the host Saints by a 6-5 margin for the game the Knights were unable to push the tying runs across in the ninth inning as Flagler closed out the Friday night victory.
Notable Performances
Gill turned in one of his best performances of the season as he went six strong innings as he limited the Saints attack to just two hits and one unearned run.
Brandon Exley would take the loss while Collins got the final three outs of the game for the Knights.
Leadoff man
Teonis Pimentel led the Knights attack with two hits and two walks while second-baseman Fernandez added in a pair of hits.
