Knights Win Over Bobcats in Game One of Series

COCHRAN, Ga. - The Knights were back at home on Friday, March 6th as they welcomed the Bobcats of Georgia College for a three game weekend series. The Knights got back in the win column on Tuesday against Albany State while the Bobcats had a four-game winning streak.

Game Recap

The game between the Bobcats and Knights started off as a pitcher's duel as both teams were unable to generate any significant offense. That changed in the fifth inning when the Knights were able to put together some runs. The Knights scored their first run of the inning on a suicide squeeze bunt by Seve Fernandez and followed it up with a sacrifice fly from Teonis Pimentel. Back-to-back RBI singles by Justin Aponte and Mikal Ashley rounded out the scoring in the inning and the Knights held a 4-0 lead. The Bobcats answered back in the top of the sixth inning with three runs to close the gap down to one run but a Tate Abbott solo home run in the bottom half of the inning gave the Knights some breathing room. The offenses went quiet again as the pitchers regained control of the game and neither team scored again as the Knights won the game 5-3.

Notable Performances

Cam Cooper went 3-for-4 at the plate and Seve Fernandez went 3-for-3. Ethan Gill picked up his first win of the season after pitching 5.1 innings while Brandon Exley picked up the save, throwing 3.2 innings in relief and allowing zero hits.

What's Up Next

The Knights return to action on Saturday, March 7th as they look to clinch their first Peach Belt Conference series with a win. First pitch is scheduled for 2 PM EST.
