Baseball Takes First Game of Series Against Sand Sharks

HARDEEVILLE, S.C. - The Knights hit the road again on Friday, April 24th as they headed to Hardeeville, South Carolina to take on the Sand Sharks of USC-Beaufort for their final PBC series of the season. The Knights were still in a position to make the PBC Tournament if they could sweep the Sand Sharks and the Jaguars of Augusta University lost all three of their games against Flagler College.

Game Recap

The Sand Sharks got on the board first in the second inning with a run but the Knights scored seven runs in the third inning on an RBI triple by Justin Aponte, a two-run triple by Cam Cooper, a sacrifice fly by Mikal Ashley, and RBI singles by Patrick Crosby, Luke Davis, and Dayton Taylor. The Sand Sharks answered back with a run in the bottom of the third inning and three runs in the fourth inning to close the gap to 7-5. The Knights added to their lead in the fifth inning with an RBI single from Dayton Taylor but the Sand Sharks got the run back in the bottom half of the inning. The Knights scored another run in the eighth inning on a wild pitch and pulled away in the ninth inning with six runs on three bases loaded walks, an RBI single by Tate Abbott, and another two-run triple by Cam Cooper. The Knights faced some trouble closing out the game as they gave up four runs in the bottom of the ninth but held on to get the 15-10 win.

Notable Performances

Cam Cooper went 3-for-5 at the plate with two triples and a double, Tate Abbott went 3-for-5 at the plate, and Dayton Taylor and Patrick Crosby each had two hits.

What's Up Next

The Knights hit the diamond again on Saturday, April 25th for the second game of the series against the Sand Sharks. First pitch is scheduled for 2 PM EST.
