Baseball Finishes Off Sweep of Sand Sharks

HARDEEVILLE, S.C. - The Knights finished off their series of the Sand Sharks of USC-Beaufort on Sunday, April 26th as they looked to earn the sweep and give themselves a chance at reaching the PBC Tournament.

The Sand Sharks jumped on the Knights early with three runs in the first inning but the Knights fought back in the third inning with an RBI double from Cam Cooper, a bases loaded walk drawn by Christian Dillard, a sacrifice fly by Patrick Crosby, and an RBI single by Sebastian Collender to give the Knights a 4-3 lead. The lead did not last long as the Sand Sharks scored five runs in the bottom half of the inning. The Knights got back to within one run in the fourth inning with an RBI single by Dayton Taylor and a two-run double by Christian Dillard but the Sand Sharks scored two runs in the fourth and fifth innings as the Knights faced a 12-7 deficit. The Knights kept fighting as they got an RBI single by Mikal Ashley in the sixth inning and a sacrifice fly by Justin Aponte in the seventh inning to close the gap. The Knights regained the lead in the eighth inning with RBI singles by Tate Abbott, Luke Davis, Cam Cooper, and Dayton Taylor to take a 13-12 lead. Brandon Exley locked down the final two innings as the Knights held on to win 13-12.

Notable Performances

Tate Abbott, Cam Cooper, and Dayton each had three hits for the Knights with every starter recording a hit and an RBI. Brandon Exley got the win after throwing 4 and 1/3 innings, allowing no runs and no hits while striking out seven batters.

What's Up Next

The Knights clinch the 8-seed in the PBC Tournament after sweeping the weekend and Augusta University having gotten swept by Flagler College. The Knights will take on the 1-seed Nighthawks of North Georgia on Friday, May 1st. First pitch is still yet to be determined.
