SAINT PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Knights kicked off their season on the road as they headed down to Saint Petersburg, Florida to take on the Tritons of Eckerd College. The Knights looked to get the season started off to a good start but would have a tough match as the Tritons were picked to finish third in the Sunshine State Conference.
The Tritons controlled the match early as the Knights were unable to maintain possession and the Tritons struck early, scoring the first goal of the match within the first two minutes. The Knights got their first shot of the match off in the fourth minute but it was off target. The Tritons regained control of the match as the Knights had to play solid defense and they kept the Triton offense off the board until the 16th minute when they scored the second goal of the match. The Knights found another shot in the 36th minute that was sent off target and came up with another chance in the 40th minute with a penalty kick but the Tritons goalkeeper made the save. The Knights headed into the halftime break down 2-0 as they would try to make adjustments and get on the board.
The Tritons found a spark during the halftime break as they scored again in the 47th minute putting the Knights down 3-0. A shot in the 55th minute for the Knights came up empty as it was saved and the Tritons scored their fourth goal of the match in the 58th minute to put the Knights behind 4-0. The Knights had one final shot in the 78th minute that was off target as they lost the match 4-0.
The loss drops the Knights to 0-1 on the season as they look to rebound on Saturday, August 29th as they take on the Lions of Saint Leo University. Kick off is scheduled for 12 PM EST.
