FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The Knights were on the court for the first time this season on Friday, August 28th as they played in the Shark Invitational, hosted by Nova Southeastern University. The Knights were ready to get back in action and were taking on the host Sharks as well as the Sailfish of Palm Beach Atlantic University in back-to-back matches.
Match One - Nova Southeastern University
The Knights had a tough time getting some momentum early in the first set as the Sharks pulled out to an early 7-2 lead. The Knights closed the gap as they scored four of the next five points to close to within two points but the Sharks got back into a rhythm as the Knights lost the first set 25-12. The Knights got off to a better start in the second set as they stayed within two points early on. The Sharks were able to apply pressure and got out to a 10 point lead as the Knights lost the second set 25-15. A slow start to the third set put the Knights behind early and they were unable to recover as they lost the set 25-10.
Match Two - Palm Beach Atlantic University
The first set of the match saw the Knights hold an early lead as they led by one point but the Sailfish grabbed the lead around the halfway point of the match and the Knights were unable to get back on track as they lost the set 25-16. The Sailfish got the lead early in the second set but the Knights closed the gpa and tied the set at 4-4. The Sailfish used a six-point run that pushed them out to the lead that they never relinquished and the Knights lost the second set 25-16. The Knights lost five of the first six points in the third set as the Sailfish pulled ahead by eight points. The Knights got the offense rolling as they close the deficit down to three points before the Sailfish back out to eight points. The Knights used a six-point run to get within two points but the Sailfish won the final two points and the Knights lost the set 25-21.
The losses start the Knights season at 0-2 as they return to the court on Saturday, August 29th as they take on UNC-Pembroke at 10 AM and Palm Beach Atlantic University at 2:30 PM to wrap up their time at the Shark Invitational.
