FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The Knights were back on the court on Saturday, August 29th as they finished up their time at the Shark Invitational, hosted by Nova Southeastern University. The Knights were ready to get back in action as looked to have a more positive outcome on the second day of play, taking UNC-Pembroke and Palm Beach Atlantic University.
Match One - UNC-Pembroke
After winning the first point of the first set, the Knights lost the next three points but came back to win six of the next seven points to take a 7-4 lead early on. The Braves came back to take the lead in the middle of the set but the Knights tied the set back up at 13-13. The Braves pulled away in the final stages of the first set as the Knights lost 25-19. The Knights won the first point of the second set but the Braves won the next eight points to put the Knights behind early. The Knights tried to mount a comeback late in the set, winning five straight points, but they were too far behind as they lost the set 25-14. The Knights got going in the third set as they held the lead early and went up 14-7. The Braves won nine of the next ten points to storm back and the set remained close throughout but the Knights lost the final three points as they lost 25-23.
Match Two - Palm Beach Atlantic University
The Knights fell behind early on in the first set but were unable to come back to get within one point. A five-point run by the Sailfish opened up the gap and the Knights would not recover as they lost the set 25-13. The second set saw both team fighting to take the lead early in the set until the Sailfish used a six-point run to pull away. The Knights fought to get back in the set but came up short as they lost the set 25-18. The Knights came out in the third set and fell behind early but used a seven-point run to get back to within one point of the Sailfish. A four-point run and a five-point run by the Sailfish stopped the momentum for the Knights as they lost the third set 25-15.
The losses move the Knights record to 0-4 as they head back out on the road and travel to Pembroke, North Carolina to play in the UNC-Pembroke Invitational, starting on Friday, September 4th with matches against Embry-Riddle University and Barton College.
