PEMBROKE, N.C. - The Knights hit the road for the second straight weekend as they headed to Pembroke, North Carolina to play in the UNCP Invitational. The Knights were set to take on the Eagles of Embry-Riddle and the Bulldogs of Barton College.
Match One - Embry-Riddle
The Knights started off well as they scored the first three points of the first set but the Eagles won six of the next seven points to take a two-point lead. After a few back-and-forth points, the Eagles used a four-point run to extend their lead and another four-point run late in the set as the Knights lost the set 25-16. A slow start to the second set saw the Knights fall behind 6-1 but they won eight of the next ten points to take the lead. The Eagles used their own large run to seal the set and the Knights lost the second set 25-16. Another slow start put the Knights behind 4-1 but they used another run to jump ahead 8-6. The Eagles won the next six points but the Knights stayed within two points until an eight-point run from the Eagles all but ended the match as the Knights lost the third set 25-15.
Match Two - Barton
The Knights lost the first six points of the first set but attempted to claw their way back. They were able to cut the deficit down to four points but the slow start doomed their chances as they lost the set 25-19. The second set saw the Knights battle for control of the set until the Bulldogs won seven out of eight points to pull ahead by six points. The Knights were unable to recover as they lost the set 25-14. The Knights stayed within reach early in the third set as they kept the score close. The Bulldogs started to gain some momentum as they had multiple runs to pull away and the Knights lost the set 25-14.
The losses move the Knights record to 0-6 as they finish their time in Pembroke on Saturday, September 5th with matches against Virginia State at 9 AM and UNC-Pembroke at 3 PM EST.
