Volleyball Splits Day One at Warhawk Invitational

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Knights headed back out on the road on Friday, September 11th as they headed to Montgomery, Alabama to take part in the Warhawk Invitational, hosted by Auburn-Montgomery. The Knights were still in search of their first win of the season and looked to be headed in the right direction.

Match One - Auburn-Montgomery

The first set was close early on until the Warhawks held a five point lead. The Knights came back to take a 16-15 lead but the Warhawks stormed back to win the set 25-21. The Knights fell behind early in the second set but came to tie the set at 11-11. An eight-point run later in the set gave them the lead and they held on to win 25-20. Runs by both teams in the third set led to the Knights down by one point until they used a seven-point run to pull away and closed out the set with a five-point run to win 25-15. The lead went back-and-forth between the two teams in the fourth set that came down to the final few points when the Knights closed out with a four-point run to win 25-23.

The Knights had 52 kills in the match, 22 of which belonged to McCall Wolf to tie the single match record. Wolf also had six service aces to tie another single match record and 28.5 points to set a new single match record in program history.

Match Two - Arkansas-Fort Smith

An early 4-2 lead by the Knights was erased by a five-point run that the Knights were never able to recover from as they lost the first set 25-19. A 3-0 start for the Lions was quickly extended to a 10-point lead as the Knights started to show signs of exhaustion in a 25-15 set loss. The Knights lost 12 of the first 13 points in the third set as they faced an uphill battle in a 25-10 set loss.

Paisley Ferguson led the team with eight kills on 19 attempts and Trinity Mitchell had 15 digs.

The Knights record moves to 1-9 as they play their final match of the tournament on Saturday, September 12th against Albany State University. Tip off is scheduled for 11 AM EST.
