VALDOSTA, Ga. - The Knights were back on the road on Wednesday, September 2nd as they headed down I-75 to Valdosta, Georgia to take on the Blazers of Valdosta State University. The Knights were coming off of a close 1-0 loss to Saint Leo University while the Blazers were playing in their first match of the season.
The Knights got started slow as the Blazers scored a goal in the fifth minute on a corner kick to take the early 1-0 lead. The Knights were unable to control possession in the early part of the first half as the Blazers continued to attack. The Knights got their first opportunity in the 19th minute and capitalized as they
Ayah Abdul-Malik scored on the corner kick from
Rylee May to tie the match up at 1-1. The Knights for one more shot in the 25th minute but were unable to score. The Blazers answered back with a goal in the 28th minute to take back the lead and the score remained 2-1 heading into the halftime break.
Coming out of the break, the Blazers continued to control the offensive side of the ball as the attack resulted in goals in the 63rd and 67th minutes to put the Knights down 4-1. The Knights started find some offensive production in the final 15 minutes with
Chloe Baladi scoring a goal in the 76th minute to close the gap and two other shots late but the Blazers goalkeeper saved both as the Knights dropped the match, 4-2.
The loss drops the Knights to 0-3 on the season as they return home on Friday, September 4th to open their home schedule with a match against the Lions of Emmanuel University. Kick off is scheduled for 5:30 PM EST.
