Gongora Brace Leads Knights to First Win

COCHRAN, Ga. - The Knights were on their home field for the first time this season on Thursday, September 3rd as they hosted the Tigers of West Alabama. The Knights dropped a pair of games on their road trip while the Tigers lost their last contest to Texas A&M International.

The first half of the match moved along quickly as both teams came up with opportunities to score. The Tigers had more shots in the first half but the Knights moved the ball up the field while losing the ball before being able to fire their shots. The match remained scoreless heading into the half time break.

In the second half, the Tigers controlled possession in the first 15 minutes as they had four shots and six corner kicks. The Tigers got on the board in the 65th minute but the Knights answered back with the equalizer two minutes later from Scott Osbourne. The Knights did not wait long to score again as Javier Gongora Andres scored off the rebound of his own penalty kick to put the Knights ahead. Gongora came through again with another goal just 39 seconds later to extend the lead to 3-1. The match started to get physical as the yellow card made a few appearances before the Tigers closed the gap with a goal in the 81st minute. The Knights played solid defense in the final minutes as the held on for the 3-2 win.

The win put the Knights record at 1-2 as they get set to play again on Saturday, September 5th when they take on the Eagles of Reinhardt University. Kick off is scheduled for 3:30 PM EST.
