Box Score 2 BRUNSWICK, GA - The softball team won their 3rd straight game over the College of Coastal Georgia Mariners on Friday, February 22 with a game 1 win 5-3 and game 2 win 11-5. The Knights are now 6-4 on the season.
Game 1 saw the Knights fall behind 3-0 with 3 unearned runs in the bottom of the 1st before Caroline Newton scattered 12 hits over 6 innings with 3 strikeouts and no walks. Margaret Simmons hit her first home run of the year and was 2 for 4 with 2 runs and an RBI in the game. Madison Bivins went 3 for 4 with a run and RBI while Newton and Taylor Sheffield each had a pair of hits. Maggie Burkhalter had a hit and 2 RBI in the win.
Game 2 had the Knights jump to a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st then the Mariners scored 3 in the bottom of the 1st for a 3-1 lead. Each team got a run in the 2nd and nothing in the 3rd. Trailing 4-2 headed to the 4th, the Knights socred 8 runs in the top of the 4th for a 10-4. The Mariners and Knights each picked up a run over the next 3 innings for a final of 11-5. Sydney Shackelford allowed 4 earned runs in 7.0 innings with 2 strikeouts to earn the win. Ny'Asia Howard was 3 for 5 in the game with 2 runs and an RBI and Brittany Wilt was 3 for 4 with a run and RBI. Bivins, Newton, Meagan Coleman, Simmons Sheffield and Lauren Heath each had 2 hits for the Knights total 18 hits.
The Knights return home on March 1 and 2 to start an 8 game home stand over 4 dates hosting Clark Atlanta on the 1st and Georgia Gwinnett on the 2nd before starting SSAC play on the 8th and 9th with Blue Mountain College.
