A Look Back And A Look Forward With Coach Ligon

7/30/2021 12:00:00 PM

Cochran, GA - We continue our Summer series where we take a look back at the past season and look forward to the upcoming season as we ask our coaches to give us their thoughts on both. We recently asked our Women's Basketball coach, Anderson Ligon, to give us his thoughts on how he thought this past season went and what he is looking forward to in this upcoming season.

How do you feel the past season went in terms of your expectations?
  • "Due to COVID-19 last season, we exceeded my expectations because we had to shut down our women's basketball program twice. For this reason, there were questions about whether we would have a season. We played only one game during the Fall semester. However, we finished the season with a 14-5 overall record, 9-3 conference record & the SSAC East Division Conference Championship. Our players really responded very well to the challenges of an unprecedented season."

How do you feel you did on your recruiting class over the offseason and how do you feel they can contribute to the roster of players that are remaining?
  • "During the offseason, we signed two JUCO transfer student-athletes: Tamira Anderson and Jadelyn Whiting. Tamira Anderson transferred from Central Georgia Technical College. She averaged 11 points and 5 rebounds per game. Tamira can play the guard and forward positions, and she plays with a high level of energy and passion. Jadelyn transferred from McCook Community College in Nebraska. She averaged 10.5 points and 6 rebounds per game. She is a fierce competitor and celebrates team comradery. We are happy to have both Tamira and Jadelyn join our team, and we expect them to contribute to our overall team success."

What are your expectations for the upcoming season?
  • "We have very high expectations for the upcoming season: graduate our student-athletes, practice servant leadership, win championships & qualify to compete in the NAIA National Tournament. Furthermore, I am proud of the foundation and culture of success our team is building for our women's basketball program."
