Knights Take Two From Lions

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 Cochran, GA - The Knights were back on their home field on Friday and Saturday as they hosted the Lions of Florida Memorial University for a three game series. The Knights were coming off of a disappointing loss against Point University and were looking to right the ship. The Knights would give up two runs in the first inning but would come back to score three runs in the bottom half of the inning on a walk by Andrew Krauss and a fielder's choice by Ryan Wilson that would lead to the other two runs. The Knights would give up another run in the third inning but would answer back with an RBI single from Wilson to retake the lead. The Knights would extend their lead in the fifth inning with a three run home run from Wilson as they would go up 7-3. The Knights would get another two runs in the sixth inning on a Krauss solo home run and an RBI single from Adam Alicea-Brooks as they would take a 9-3 lead. After giving up two runs in the seventh inning, the Knights would get another run from Wilson with an RBI single. The Knights would go into the ninth inning up 10-5 but would give up five runs and the game would go into extra innings. The Lions would score two runs in the tenth to go up 12-10 but the Knights would not give up as Alicea-Brooks would hit a solo home run to cut the lead in half but the Knights would be unable to score any more runs and would lose the first game of the series 12-11. The Knights would come back for the second game of the day and score the first run of the game in the second inning on a Jacob Pierce solo home run. After giving up a run in the third inning, the offense for the Knights would explode for 11 runs in the bottom half of the inning as JT Rice, PIerce, Derick Stager, and Wilson would each hit home runs in the inning and the Knights would be up 12-1. The Knights would give up a run in the fifth inning but would score three more runs in the bottom half of the inning on a Matthew Vargas home run. The Knights would get two more runs in the sixth inning after bases loaded walks from Stager and Alicea-Brooks and the Knights would win the second game 17-2. The Knights would have to win on Saturday to win the series. The outlook did not look good for the Knights as they would give up three runs in the first inning and two runs in the second inning and they would be behind 5-0. The Knights would score their first run of the game in the fifth inning on a Brian Herrera lead off home run and the Knights would trail 5-1. After giving up a run in the seventh inning, the Knights would score four runs in the bottom half of the inning to cut the lead down to 6-5. The Knights would give up three runs in the ninth inning and would have to make a come back if they wanted to win the series. Jake Edwards would lead off the bottom half of the ninth inning with a home run. Wilson and Krauss would hit back-to-back singles to set up Brennon Williams for an RBI double to cut the lead to 9-7. Rice would come up next and hit the walkoff three run home run to give the Knights the win and win the series. The Knights record moves to 9-6. The Knights will be back in action at home on Tuesday, February 28th as they host the Sand Sharks of USC-Beaufort. First pitch is scheduled for 3 PM EST.
