MACON, Ga.- The Middle Georgia State University Division of Advancement has announced Bobby Kummer to the position Development Officer for Athletic Initiatives. This newly created position will work closely with Director of Athletics, Michael Brown and other members of the MGA Foundation staff to help spearhead fundraising efforts for Knights Athletics.
Kummer comes to MGA from Mercer University where he spent the previous five years on the coaching staff of the Bears men's basketball program. Overall, Kummer has spent 28 seasons at the collegiate level in men's basketball coaching and will look to utilize his experience to help expand the brand of MGA Athletics.
"Adding someone with Bobby's skill set is paramount for us as we look to expand our reach in our Middle Georgia communities and spread the word on the amazing things that are happening in and around Knights Athletics," said Brown.
"His passion for the student-athlete experience and in developing relationships will be an instant asset to our efforts to continue to raise funds for the growth of our department and to help us reach our goals as laid out in our strategic plan," continued Brown.
Kummer will serve on the staff of the MGA Foundation but work hand-in-hand with Brown and the Knights coaches to help establish new and enhanced revenue streams to support MGA Athletics.
"First, I would like to thank President Blake, Nancy White, and Michael Brown for allowing me to join their team as they transition into the Peach Belt Conference and the NCAA," said Kummer. I am very excited to work with the Advancement Team and Coaching Staff to help them continue to build MGA's brand throughout Middle Georgia. It is an exciting time to be a Knight, and I look forward to sharing our story with the Middle Georgia Community and the state of Georgia."
Prior to his time on the Mercer sidelines, Kummer was on the men's basketball staff at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas for five years, the last three of which he held the title of associate head coach. He helped turn the Cardinals' program from a Southland Conference bottom feeder to a conference title contender in a short span.

Before arriving at Lamar, Kummer spent four seasons at Appalachian State, including three as the Mountaineers' associate head coach. Kummer also spent time as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Charlotte, and Texas A&M. His coaching career began in 1996 at Charlotte, where he helped the 49ers reach two NCAA Tournaments.
