COCHRAN, Ga.- Middle Georgia State University women's basketball head coach
Steven Rhodes has named Madison Lowery to the Knights staff as an assistant coach. A former NCAA Division I and II student-athlete and coach, Lowery is set to begin her duties with the Knights on August 1
st.
Lowery joins the MGA coaching staff as a full-time assistant coach following a two-year stint with Valdosta State University as a graduate assistant coach. Prior to joining the coaching ranks at VSU she competed for three seasons at the University of Massachusetts before closing out her playing career at Division II powerhouse, Wingate University in North Carolina.
Originally from Virginia Beach, Virginia, Lowery poured in over 2,200 career points while competing for TPLS Christian Academy before enrolling at UMass.
"Hiring my assistant was the most important decision I've made in the early stages of building this program, and I truly feel like I hit a home run with Madison," said Rhodes.
"She brings a contagious energy, a relentless work ethic, and a deep care for people that will elevate everyone around her. She's played and coached under some of the best minds in the game, and she takes pride in doing the little things right. Most of all, she's someone who will pour into our players as both a coach and a role model and I couldn't be more excited to have her on this journey with us."
Rhodes and the Knights look forward to the energy and winning attitude possessed by Lowery to make an immediate impact on the program. While part of the Valdosta State coaching staff, Lowery contributed to a Gulf South Conference championship team in her first season before another solid campaign on the bench last season.
While working with the Blazers the last two seasons, Lowery gained valuable experience as she coordinated all team travel logistics, purchasing, academic advising, alumni relations, NCAA compliance, camps and assisted with on court coaching. She also helped with game film review, scouting reports, and evaluating prospects in recruiting.
"I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to join Coach Rhodes as an assistant coach at Middle Georgia State," said Lowery.
"I believe this university is special and I can't wait to be a part of the exciting new chapter in the Peach Belt Conference. I am looking forward to pouring into this community and supporting our student-athletes on and off the court Go Knights!"
Lowery holds a bachelor's degree in Psychology from UMass where she was a four-time Dean's List recipient while owning two master's degrees. She completed a master's degree in Sports Management from Wingate University in '23 while recently completing her master's program in Higher Education Leadership from Valdosta State in May '25.
Rhodes, Lowery and the team will kick off the 2025-26 season in early November as the program begins its first season competing in NCAA Division II and the Peach Belt Conference. Team members will return to campus for the start of the semester in a few short weeks.
